Said Kunkuyu: “Additionally, we must embrace diversity and ensure that women from all backgrounds have equal access to skills-building and networking platforms.

“I, therefore, urge you to use this opportunity to learn from the experiences of others and gain different perspectives and leverage the power of collective knowledge and expertise to foster innovation and drive impactful change in the industry.”

WAN-Ifra, through its WIN Leadership Accelerator Programme has trained over 60 women journalists in Malawi to increase women’s leadership and voices in the media.

In her keynote address, Minister of Tourism Vera Kamtukule encouraged the women to be confident, work hard and self-upgrade so that they rise in their careers on merit.

WIN deputy executive director Jane Godia, who is also the director for Africa, reiterated the organisation’s commitment to driving equality in the media by ensuring that media organisations and individuals work to close the gender gap in newsrooms.
